"Silent Sky": A Moving True Story

"Silent Sky" is the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, an early 20th century astronomer hampered in her passions because she was born into an age where women didn’t pursue such things. Much like the women of "Hidden Figures" a few generations later, Leavitt is able to overcome the biases of her day as she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned male astronomer who claims credit for their work. Only much later did the truth come to light. Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see until someone like Leavitt changes the way we understand both the heavens and Earth. Watch as her struggle for equality is brought to vivid life on the stage of the Long Beach Playhouse.
